First time shopping Experience with

During diwali festival, blogadda announced an awesome activity in association with Quikr.  Do you all want to know what that is???  A 100 shortlisted bloggers had an opportunity to shop in #ShopQuick for 5000 Rs.  Hurrah! I am one among them :)... I love shopping especially online shopping and its came on right (festival) time.

I heard about the website Quikr through my friends & relatives and seen some Ads in television too, but I haven't tried that before.  It is my first time shopping experience with quikr. Before I start my hunting, I asked about the reviews of Quikr in my surroundings. All of them gave me positive replies. Many of my friends used to sell their products and they all got decent amount for that. Ok, first let me tell you about

What is
Quikr is one of the India’s largest online and mobile classifieds portals based in Mumbai, India. It was launched on 12 July 2008 and is currently present in 900 cities across India. Quikr provides the local community with a platform to help them buy, sell, rent and find something and address needs across many categories. These categories numbering over 12 and sub-categories over 140 range from Mobiles, real estate, cars, services, jobs, entertainment, furniture, electronics etc (Source: Wikipedia)

When blogadda announced this activity, I decided to buy some useful things for my home. I listed out what things we need for our house now?? A couple of years ago we bought a 46 inch LCD TV for our big living room, but we don't have a proper TV stand for that (pic attached above). Hence I decided to buy a stylish wooden TV stand which should perfectly fit the TV inch. I started my hunting in Quikr website.  In the homepage, it showed search box, categories and a drop down menu for to select our city. I chose my place Mayiladuthurai.

Then I clicked on the category menu. There it has an array of different categories. Since I was looking for TV stand, I clicked on Home & Lifestyle tab. It redirected to the next page.

In Home & lifestyle category, it has furniture, clothing, decorative items, household products etc., In order to filter the unwanted options, I chose all furniture option.  It showed only furniture items.  For further filtering, it has more options in left side bar like Price, furniture type, used/new, etc.,

In my place, the furniture availability was less than 10 numbers. Luckily a TV stand was there as how I expected :).  I clicked on the product, and it redirected to the product details page.

In the product details page, it showed product price, condition, some snaps of the product and product description.  I really liked the product outlook. Though they mentioned it's used, it looked like new one. In the right side bar, it showed the owner's mobile number.  I made a cal to the owner and said that I saw your Ad in and I am interested to buy the TV stand. He replied that sure I will sell it to u, but I am on the way to Chennai now and I will be back on couple of days. Like he said, he contacted me again after two days. Within few minutes, we finalized the deal.  I expected the TV stand price might be exactly 5000 Rs, but it cost only 3999/- . I have 1001 Rs more to purchase some other products.

Then again I started searching the products for balance 1001 Rs, but unfortunately I don't like any of the products. So I decided to change the city selection. I changed it to Karaikal, which is my dad's native. Here I clicked on electronics category. To filter other options, I chose computer peripheral, I set the price limit to 1000, and the products are not very impressive. I increased it to 1100 Rs. Ahhh! I found a new san disk 32 GB pen drive. Without any second thought, I clicked the product. In the product details, the owner mentioned its new one and it has 5 years warranty... what else I need ;)... I replied to that Ad and owner contacted me on the same day. Within few seconds we finalized the deal. My daddy is going to get it tomorrow from the person.

Quikr is the best online portal for buying and selling products. It is quick and user friendly website too. Overall, I am very glad about the both product deals. It has several different options to get your right deals. I love the filtering options; it really made my job so simple and eases. I am sure; I will shop again in Quikr. My first time shopping experience with Quikr is so pleasant and smooth. I am one of the happy customers :) Thank you so much Quikr and BlogAdda for this wonderful opportunity.

Diwali is all about Sweets and Sweet Memories

Diwali is just around the corner. All of my family members are so excited to celebrate it in a grand manner. In my native, a month ago, all the shops were decorated with colourful serial lights. I am eagerly counting the days for grand celebration.

How we prepare for Diwali celebration in our home:

When I think about Diwali festival, first thing which strikes my mind is new dress :). Every year two weeks ahead of Diwali, we used to do Diwali dress shopping. We don't like to do shop in last minute, because the bazaar will be so crowd and more than that all good pattern and latest trendy dress might sell that time. This year also we finished our shopping a week ago.

Next thing which come to mind is everyone's favourite yummy sweets and savouries :) In our home, we never buy sweets from shop. Every year we make Diwali sweets at our home.  My grandma comes to my home to help mom for Diwali sweet preparation. She is a great cook (I am learning cooking from her now). I and my two sisters likes to do some help like rolling, mixing the murkku dough, but my mom never allow us to go near the oil pan. While making sweets, we sit around and my grandma shares her childhood memories with us. It is always one of unforgettable moments in my life. The sweets which we prepare for Diwali is rice flour murruku, sweet murruku, mullu murruku, guava leaf murruku, gulab jamun, adhirasam, rava laddu, seeni urunda, Mysore pak etc., .During Diwali, we share sweets with our relations and neighbours. Hence we make 100 numbers in each sweet and savoury dish.

Gulab jamun is one of my favourite sweet delicacies. It is so delicious and simple to make. From last year, I make gulab jamun using left over breads. It tastes as same as normal milk powder gulab jamun. I would really love to share the simplest recipe. The ingredients you will need
For making bread gulab jamun is
8 bread slice
1/2 cup milk
Oil for deep frying
For making sugar syrup
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
A pinch of cardamom powder
A pinch of saffron strands

Method for making jamuns:

First, cut the brown edges of bread and dip the bread in milk. Then squeeze out the extra milk. Repeat the same for other breads. Now take breads in blender and grind it into smooth paste. Divide equal portions and make balls. Heat the oil in pan over lower flame. Drop each ball into the heated oil, fry them well until it turns to golden brown colour. Drain the excess oil in paper towel. Let them warm for some time.

Now for the sugar syrup, take sugar and water in large saucepan, mix well and cook it on lower flame. When it forms single string consistency, remove it from the flame and add saffron strands and cardamom powder. Once the sugar syrup cools down, add jamuns into it.

Let it soak for 4 hours to get soft and smooth texture. It's done :) simple isn't it?? I hope this recipe will help you all for the last minute sweet preparation.

Last but not least, Fire crackers :).  Actually we buy it on a day before Diwali that's why I couldn't upload my own fire crackers image. We love different colour sky shot. That is in top of my fire cracker list.

How we celebrate Diwali:

The day before Diwali night, we sisters never sleep. We do chatting, playing card games, watching Diwali special television show. At 12 o clock, we wish everyone in our family and we start sweeping our home entrance for big rangoli kolam. Then my dad applies small drop of segaikai (powder herbal shampoo) and oil on head. It is one of traditional custom during Diwali festival. My mom will be very busy in arranging all the sweets, pooja items and cloths in pooja room. After aarathi my dad gives us new clothes. We happily go and wear it. After 10 o clock, we visit our friends and relations home to share Diwali wishes and sweets. The whole day we spent time firing crackers, visiting relations home, watching TV, eating loads of sweets. Diwali is one of my very favourite festivals. Now, I'm eagerly counting days for Diwali celebration.

Wish you all a very happy and prosperous Diwali 2014 :)
